A long tarred-timber barn in the reeds, one room deep so the light crosses it twice a day.

The house
The planners asked for an agricultural building. We gave them one: a single long volume clad in tarred larch, with a roof that drops almost to the grass.
Inside, the rooms run in a line, each opening to the reeds on one side and the lane on the other. The kitchen is in the middle, so the house warms from its centre.
There is no garden, only the marsh, which the owners have been told not to tidy.
